Yew: type of conifers

How often to prune yew hedge
Prune a yew hedge in June and then again towards the autumn. Do you have an old neglected yew plant in the garden? These can be pruned rigorously in the winter months.

This is how pruning yew hedge works
Taxus baccata is known as a slow grower. Still, you should prune it for better growth. With a newly planted hedge, trim only the sides, let the top grow until the hedge is the desired height and then prune the top. The hedge of a ‘Taxus Hicksii’ also stays in shape in this way. The prunings are sometimes collected as raw material for cancer medicines, so don’t just throw it away.
